Customer Information Control System (CICS), one of IBM's most durable and long-lasting products, is released in 1968. The basic architecture for the transaction processing product allows it to be incorporated into new platforms over the ensuing years. Recent reports found that over 90 percent of U.S. Fortune 500 companies, and most state and national governments, rely on CICS for their core business functions.
